During the first stage of "Illegal 2018" in the CSTO member states more than 73 thousand violations of migration legislation were detected

In the course of the ongoing regional operation “Illegal”, which took place from May 15 to May 23 of this year, measures were taken to monitor the migration of foreign citizens legislation, as well as measures taken to strengthen the protection of state borders and control over the border regime. A complex of operational-search measures was carried out to identify among foreign citizens of persons involved in the activities of terrorist and extremist organizations, as well as to curb the criminal activities of the organizers of the channels of illegal migration.
In total, the efforts of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states during the 1st stage of the operation revealed over 73 thousand violations of immigration laws, of which over 56 thousand are related to violations of the order of entry, exit and stay over 17 thousand foreign citizens are associated with violations of the established procedure for migrants to work.
1,749 criminal cases were initiated by law enforcement agencies of the Organization’s member states to organize illegal migration.
As a result of the consideration of cases on administrative offenses of the migration legislation, fines amounting to about $ 2.5 million were imposed, of which 58% was recovered during the 1st stage of the operation.
During this phase of the CSTO operation, law enforcement agencies detained 248 persons who were on the international wanted list, and also identified 80 suspicious financial transactions made by foreign nationals in excess of $ 950,000.
In addition, 3,375 criminal cases were initiated on other crimes identified during the "Illegal 2018", including related:
- 1 358 cases of drug trafficking;
- with illegal arms trafficking - 166 cases;
- with illegal crossing of the state border - 129 cases;
- 26 cases of extremist and terrorist crimes -
Currently, the competent authorities of the CSTO member states are working to plan activities and coordinate joint efforts during the second stage of Operation Illegal 2018.
