On April 26, 2018, the twenty-first meeting of the Coordination Council of the heads of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states on combating illegal migration was held in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.      The Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, Valery Semerikov, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Turgumbayev, and a delegation of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states took part in the meeting of the Coordination Coincil of the Heads of the CSTO Competent Bodies on Combating Illegal Migration.      The meeting reviewed the current state of the migration situation in the CSTO member states and the situation in the border areas of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with the Republic of Tajikistan, discussed the effectiveness of measures taken to counter illegal migration and summarized the results of the CSTO operation “Nelegal 2017”. ".

      In addition, the participants in the Coordination Coincil of the Heads of the CSTO Competent Bodies on Combating Illegal Migration meeting discussed the development of a collective system to combat illegal migration until 2025, and also shared their experience in ensuring security in the migration sector when preparing and conducting major international and sporting events.

The meeting also finalized the draft Agreement on Cooperation of the Organization's member states in countering illegal migration, which was proposed to be considered at one of the next meetings of the CSTO Permanent Council to complete work on it and submit it to the statutory bodies.

 At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, Valery Semerikov, in accordance with the order of the Secretary General of the Organization, for actively participating in the development of a collective system to counter illegal migration in the CSTO space, presented the commemorative signs of the 25th Anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty in the work of the Coordination Council.
